NXTZ had the opportunity to collab with Flow Snowboards and Chris Brunkhart during the Super Park 16 session up at Mt. Bachelor in Oregon. We took this opportunity to reach out to some good friends to make our own live recording for the edit. Here you have the rare and Live recording of Wes Makepeace and Matt Donahue doing a song called Highway Man. Originally recorded by Jimmy Webb, about a soul with incarnations in four different places in time and history, a highwayman, a sailor, a construction worker on the Hoover Dam, and finally as a star ship captain. Recorded in front of our cabin at the lake after riding one day, this song embraces the roots of snowboarding and why we all do it! We are all Highway Men! This NXTZ mix is deep from within the NXTZ vaults. In the early and mid 90's I lived in the San Diego area and was good friends with a DJ known as DJ Greyboy aka Andreas Stevens. Greyboy was Dj'ing allot back then, especially in the SD area. This mix was recorded sometime in the mid 90's onto a mini disc (right when they came out) I was recently cleaning out some old crap and found this bad boy. I bounced it down into a digital format and I present to you a blast from the past! Old school hip-hop and rare groves wrapped up nicely in a perfectly executed mix. Jason Arnold is one hell of a great guy who will proudly tell you that he prides himself most on his beautiful daughter Jessie. He's probably one the nicest guys you may ever meet. I've know Jason for many years and through many different channels, and the one thing that has always stuck out is the fact that he knows his music and he runs a tight ship. Jason handles the International Core Business Development over at Skullcandy and he is also the Music Manager for our friends at Electric Visual. Always busy and on the road, he has more frequent flyer miles this year alone than most of us will compile in a lifetime. Styk is one hell of a creative mind, and has been part of building some of the coolest shit around. Styk is one of the main people behind Department of Energy, a design firm base in the great Northwest and also organizes The YARD at the SIA trade shows. The NXTZ Sound System is set in place to give you the ability to look into people's play lists who NXTZ finds interesting, inspiring, influential and just straight up bad ass. Everyone who is selected to create a Sound System mix has in one way or another influenced us here at NXTZ. With that said, the first mix is curated by NXTZ front man Dale Rehberg (me). This mix is as roots as it gets in terms of banger reggae and dancehall vibes. I have been collecting reggae and dancehall vinyl for many years and the songs chosen here represent what I feel are some of the best you can find. Enjoy and keep checking back for more releases.
